After 12 years of working on his invention Samuel F.B. Morse sends the first telegram on May 24, 1844. In 1834 Congress appropriated $30,000 to aid Morse with the development of the telegraph, and a telegraph line was constructed from Washington to Baltimore. "What hath God wrought?" was the first message that launched a new era of communication.
